Avant Garde Frocks You Can Buy

Below are some of the works of the most revered names in fashion history, all of them available for sale. In the midst of all the homogeneity and saturation that is fashion, it can be a relief to look back at the great pieces that graced the runways of yesteryears to remind us that there is always hope.

These works were crafted in the 1980s, but they could jolly well be made just yesterday and they would still look fresh. Take a guess which designers made the respective pieces, then click on the images to get the answers (and prices in case you’re interested in purchasing them).

The cut of the first Miyake piece is just so perfectly balanced and timeless. Want etc.

Love the clothes, but hates the sizes. Why are these beautiful japanese clothes so small? Tall Dutch women would look great in them. So I try to stay thin because I want my Yamamoto clothes keep fitting me. Love your blog despite size differences,

      Hi Josephine,

Thanks for your input. I’m assuming they’re small because their main customers are essentially the Japenese, but I do find that Japanese designers are more forgiving when cutting their clothes, as compared to say, Rick. Perhaps Yohji dresses are more fitting, but his outerwears can easily accommodate larger sizes. Regardless, I have to agree that tall women tend to look better in clothes.
