For The Love of Rick

Rick is not cheap, in fact he’s so bloody overpriced sometimes I hate that I love him (by that I mean his clothes). But thanks to the internet, crafty designers are now able to re-interpret his works to give us the watered down versions. Granted they’re not made of the same high quality fabrics, and often not as interesting, but you know, that’s where our creativity comes in. The only thing I can’t forgo though, is his shoes. In fact, I just can’t bring myself to buy any inspired versions of designer footwear. There’s a reason why designer shoes are expensive and not easily replicated. Innovation, research and developments cost a big chunk of money to make sure the shoes don’t collapse under our weight and look good at the same time. Not only that, the replicas tend to look so out of proportion that they cease being flattering (case in point, JC Litas vs Charles Anastase).

Ultimately though, it is up to us the consumers who make the judgement whether a pair of shoes is indeed worth its price tag. While some brands command high prices just because they can, some shoes are worth saving up for. So you know, if you ever think of buying a pair of Rick’s boots, DO IT, don’t care if it’s through Ebay or Yoox or, if you’re a trust fund kid, at full price. It’s worth going without five pairs of mediocre shoes.

Lovely! I agree about footwear, fully. Ebay and yoox (and sale hunting) are my friends. It’s interesting that a random no-name drapey cardigan I bought at a random store in Japan is one of my most-worn pieces.

I agree all of RO lines are overpriced and yet…we buy. ;) Thankfully, as you mentioned, there are online shops like Yoox and such. (I never had luck w/ Ebay..)
I have yet to get a pair of RO shoes. Hunting for the correct combo of price, size, color and style is tricky business. A pair of RO sandals keeps calling my name, however, as well as ankle boots for F/W…

Love the draping in this outfit!
And you’re completely right, there are some things just worth waiting for!

This is such a beautiful outfit! Totally agree with the shoes point too. I rarely buy high end designer clothes, but will happily spend a chunk on shoes/bags/jewellery as I see those as more of an investment. I have a pair of RO wedges (ebay!) & they are one of the comfiest pairs of shoes I own, trying a pair on makes you fully appreciate the reason they are so expensive I think. The only problem is now I want more!

I was insanely lucky when a pal spotted my rick wedges in my size on sale at half of what they retail for now on Browns… knowing how amazingly comfortable they are now I’m more relaxed about the idea of spending (more) on future shoe purchases.

I find RO relatively reasonably in comparison with other luxury brands. I especially like the Drkshdw line, as it’s more practical for my life. Also I love the black cardigan and dress you’re wearing.
